Biodiesel SuppliesAs energy prices continue to rise, there is likely to be a renewed interest in alternative fuel types. While automakers are pursuing hybrid engines and fuel cells, it may be years before those options can help America be truly energy independent. In the meantime, you can produce your own biodiesel from supplies that are readily available. The main component of biodiesel is oil, whether you choose to use soybean oil, peanut oil, or vegetable oil. You can use new oil, but it is more common for producers of biodiesel to use waste oil, or oil which has already been used. Restaurants are a popular source of waste oil, as they go through large quantities of oil on a regular basis. Biodiesel Supplies: Oil, Catalyst, and MethanolIn addition to oil, you will need two other supplies to produce biodiesel: a catalyst and methanol. Methanol, which is an alcohol, is mixed with the oil through a chemical process called transesterification, during which glycerin is removed from the oil and methanol and lye serve as a catalyst for the reaction. The supplies used to create biodiesel will also yield glycerin as a byproduct, which can be used as a degreaser or handsoap. At www.evolutionbiodieselkits.com, we have the mechanical supplies that you'll need to create your own biodiesel at home or at work. Our processor kits ship with safety supplies and most have an instructional DVD to guide you through the process of making biodiesel with no worries.
